Sustainability Showcase

As part of London Fashion Week’s postponed ‘Citywide Celebration’, Chelsea will be hosting ‘Designers at Work’ at the Saatchi Gallery, a market showcasing sustainable food pioneers and activations from businesses across the neighbourhood including Allbirds, Brora, Peter Jones, Monica Vinader, and Rixo.

Curated by Orsola de Castro (Co-Founder of Fashion Revolution) and art directed by multi-award winning artist and designer Matthew Needham, ‘Designers at Work’ will be a series of brief encounters, a chance to meet truly revolutionary designers and be inspired to bring some of their techniques into your wardrobe. The workshops will feature sustainable material supplied by The Sustainable Angle. Get hands-on inspiration from the pioneers who are changing the way fashion is made and worn, featuring:

  • Colechi: A collective of curators taking the London fashion scene by storm. For this special picnic, they will enact their legendary knitting club – all are invited to join, beginners to experts, for a knit and a yarn (BYOK – bring your own knit – or borrow – but be there)
  • Katie Jones: ‘Crocheter extraordinaire’ Katie invites you to join her colourful world where you can watch her in action or crochet your own granny square, in hot anticipation of her book ‘Hip to be Square’ out in October
  • Georgia Keeling: part of The Seam London’s excellent team of seamstresses, Georgia’s speciality is visible darning – be inspired by her meticulous darned ‘galaxies’
  • Katy Mason: Katy Mason’s jewellery is a triumph of all things found, random, radical, intimate and thought provoking – it asks us what is trash? What is treasure? And leaves you  in a perpetual doubt as what is the answer.
  • Revival LDN: bringing denim upcycling to a whole new level, Revival LDN will show you how to customise and transform old denim into amazing new outfits, giving your jeans multiple lives if you care and repair

Several designer sessions will take place throughout the day, completely free but booking necessary.

10 spaces are pre-bookable for each designer session, simply state your preferred designer (Colechi, Katie Jones, Georgia Keeling, Katy Mason or Revival LDN), time (on the hour between 10am-4pm) and ideal number in your party to marketing@cadogan.co.uk. Confirmation of your booking will be sent back to you, and you may be asked to show proof on arrival.

A number of spaces will be available for walk-ins on the day.

Other highlights during the day include a ‘Stitch and Bitch’ session, a single-use plastic free Food Market featuring sustainable food pioneers at Duke of York Square and brand activations from over 20 neighbourhood shops and restaurants including a pop-up sustainability ‘kiosk’ from Allbirds, ‘Stitch It Don’t Ditch It’ sessions at Brora, recycling service at Monica Vinader, sustainable fashion shows at Peter Jones and tips and techniques from The Handbag Clinic. A screening of sustainable fashion documentaries including recently debuted documentary ‘Unstitched’, a documentary which explores various important issues the industry faces, with an optimistic look into the future for how we can remedy these problems. Chelsea, in particular the King’s Road, has long been a home for pioneering fashion creatives, this is an opportunity to champion both todays and those of the future.
