Kensington & Chelsea Art Week 2020

The Kensington & Chelsea Art Week returns this year spanning a full 11 days, from 1-10 October 2020. World-class institutions and cultural practitioners have come together with a programme of events and installations taking place across the neighbourhood for a week-long celebration of the cultural heritage of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. A colourful series of public art trails, exhibitions and installations will feature over 150 local galleries and cultural venues in what promises ot be the most exciting edition of the festival yet.

Follow the public art trail across the borough and discover large-scale pieces of art on display for all to enjoy. ‘In Bloom’, a majestic large-scale geometric sculpture and light installation will sit on Sloane Square with the title evoking memories of Chelsea in Bloom, the neighbourhood’s most loved floral exhibition, an extension of the Chelsea Flower Show that takes place each May.

At Duke of York Square you’ll be able to find “Through”, an interactive walk-through glass isntallation by Liz West. The multicoloured sculpture exudes positivity through the rainbow colours that have become synonymous with hope in recent months.

It doesn’t stop there either; further down the King’s Road, shops have partnered with artists connected to the area to animate their store windows.

Plus, this year’s event also sees the return of the acclaimed photography competition by Alison Jackson, ‘A Day in Your Life’. The open air community minded photography exhibition invited aspiring photographers over the age of 9-years old within the borough to submit a photograph which best expressed a day in their life during the extraordinary lockdown period. The winning photographs will be exhibited on the Duke of York Square running track on 3rd and 10th October from 10am-4pm, alongside the Saturday Fine Food Market, and thereafter on 5th October in the Chelsea Theatre picture space.

Kensington & Chelsea Art Week is set to be a jam-packed programme of activity. All events are free to attend and will be held outside to ensure social distancing can be maintained.
