Summer skincare with Dermalogica

Spring is here and with it, sunshine! We caught up with Dermalogica who have shared their six steps on levelling up your skin protection this sunny-season, so you can maintain that healthy glow whilst still enjoying some much-needed Vitamin D.

Enhance your skin’s sun defence

SPF is just as important for your skin as cleansing! We recommend to use a minimum of SPF30, regardless of your skin type, tone or the time of year. Broad-spectrum SPF protects against UVA and UVB which is present all year round Try Protection 50 Sport for Face and Body, or Prisma Protect SPF30 for your daily SPF moisturiser.

Future-proof your skin

Sun exposure contributes to premature ageing and pigmentation. Consider an SPF boosted with botanicals and vitamins to future proof your skin against environmental and UV damage. All Dermalogica SPF formula’s contain antioxidants. For boosted protection, layer with BioLumin-C Serum.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!

In the summer, your skin can become dull and dehydrated due to increased sun exposure – make sure you exfoliate to maintain your healthy glow. The Daily Microfoliant will slough away any dulling debris. For your body, try Thermafoliant Body Scrub to give your skin that instant polish.

Find some shade

Try to limit sun exposure, where possible, during peak hours of 11am-2pm. We recommend wide brim hats and sunglasses.

Shield the sun

UV rays can penetrate through glass so make sure to use your broad spectrum SPF whilst driving or working near a window.

Chemical or physical sunscreen?

It really is just a matter of preference. Chemical sunscreens absorb into the skin and are usually more popular because they feel lighter and look less noticeable. They use active ingredients such as Avobenzone, Octinoxate, Oxybenzone and Helioplex. Physical sunscreens on the other hand, or mineral sunscreens such as Invisible Physical Defense sit on the surface of the skin. They can feel heavier and look more noticeable, but they provide added coverage and are more resistant to sweating and swimming. Look for active ingredients like Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide to identify them.

Dermalogica are now open and we recommend you speak to their experts in store to answer any of your skincare queries. Find them at 37 Duke of York Square.
