Brunch? We'll see you there

The sun is on his way they say and we think that calls for brunch. Saturday and Sunday mornings are exceptionally well spent when feasting on the hybrid that is breakfast and lunch (but better), getting in your caffeine fix and potentially even a “hair of the dog”. Here’s where to find yours at the Square.

Vardo

Credited with revolutionising the Chelsea brunch scene, Vardo is not only a prime spot for people watching with the floor-to-ceiling windows and extensive outdoor seating, for those warmer days, it also offers a fantastic brunch. Expect the eternal classics including eggs or avocado on toast (in levelled-up form) or a Full English, but our favourites include Buckwheat pancakes with roasted apple, lemon curd, pumpkin seeds and sumac praline and the Fried jalapeno cornbread that comes with black beans, a tomato and chipotle salsa, fried egg and yogurt curd cheese and drenched in coriander. The coffee is absolutely mighty-fine, so expect an excellent caffeine hit.

The Black Penny

The place for all-day brunch – because who doesn’t crave pancakes at 4pm? Aside from The Hunter and The Gatherer, their take on the Full- and Veggie- English respectively, the menu features plenty of tempting dishes. Sweet tooth? Order the Brioche French Toast that comes with whipped lemon ricotta, black cardamom sugar, blueberry compote and toasted almonds or prefer something savoury, then the Ozdemir Pasha is undoubtedly one of our favourites; Grilled halloumi, poached eggs, butter bean hummus, sumac with a fresh tomato, onion and parsley salad on sourdough.
