Al fresco dining at the Square: everything you need to know

The Square has come alive again, just in time for summer. With the outdoors being the safest place to socialise, there could not be a more perfect place than Duke of York Square to settle down for a delicious meal and much overdue catch-up with friends.

Your safety is the absolute priority and so you’ll find tweaked restaurants layouts and menu adaptations to ensure you can dine without worry. However, if you’d prefer a more casual picnic or takeaway option, you won’t be lost for places to perch.

Whilst our restaurants have reopened, we do recommend you contact them directly in advance of visiting to confirm your booking and/or opening hours.

Comptoir Libanais

Ensuring daily wellness checks of their staff, a social-distancing friendly lay out and reduced menu to decrease the number of staff required will ensure you can indulge on your favourite Lebanese dishes without worry. Booking is recommended, so with some sun on the horizon and a beautiful terrace overlooking the piazza, get in there quick.

Manicomio

Whether you’re after something a little more formal at Manicomio or a casual catch-up at Manicomio Cafe, the Italian’s terrace is a great spot for a people watch. Always popular from morning through to the evening, their new brunch menu, featuring smoked salmon and potato latkes with horseradish creme fraiche, is definitely worth booking for.

Vardo

Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, supper and drinks, Vardo sits in the centre of the Square, with windows that descend into the floor allowing the seating to spread into the sun. The small and large sharing plates are so delicious that booking is encouraged however, for those feeling more spontaneous, there is space saved for walk-ins.

Polpo

International travel is somewhat risky business this summer, so get your Venetian fix on the Polpo terrace, which we’re thrilled has been extended for the sunny season. With the sun’s presence a little hit and miss, wide umbrellas and cosy blankets will ensure your alfresco experience doesn’t have to come to an early end.

Searcy’s at Saatchi

Classic British dishes with a modern twist and a focus on sustainable and seasonal ingredients, as well as an exceptional champagne menu. Book a table on the terrace that overlooks the green opposite the Saatchi Gallery, perfect spot for a blissful summer afternoon.

Many of our restaurants are also offering takeaway and delivery options which you can enjoy at the newly added tables and chairs, placed across the Square. The Fine Food Market returns at weekends and from 18 July will be held on the running track opposite the Saatchi Gallery. From 24 July, the running track will open at weekends for picnics. Socially-distanced picnic circles are clearly marked to encourage safe al fresco enjoyment of takeaways and picnic treats under the summer sun.
